From Alta to Oslo - Chapter Twelve
Despite being slowed down by the weight on my back and the weight pulled by Lys, we managed to make it another thirty-two kilometres before we decided to stop for the night. Olivia was still weak from earlier, leading me to fear that she wouldn't be with Lys and I much longer.
The thought remained with me as I set up a makeshift tent out of the large, white tarp we had brought with us and began a small fire in the metal pail, waiting for it to warm up enough so that I could make some sausages to eat. Olivia's wound started to bleed heavily again when we stopped on the side of the road, with no encampments anywhere in sight. Lys took ov

"You need to sleep, Amber."
"No." I muttered thickly, sticking my hand under my mask to that I could wipe my eyes.
"Amber, you've got a long way ahead o' you tomorrow, you're exhausted both physically and mentally, and you need to recharge."
"I can't."
"Amber, you're only going to get worse if you don't sleep."
I didn't say anything, I just kept my eyes glued to the flames inside of the metal bucket, clutched the cup of some warm chocolate liquid in my gloved hands, and listened to the sound of small animals climbing up and down the walls of the hospital.
"Amber, you can talk to me."
"I don't want to." I snapped, clut

"So 'ow is it in there?" Spejder asked after I crawled back out of the hospital, still clutching the clipboard as if my life depended on it while my eyes remained inhumanly wide.
"The first floor's fine," I said, my voice sounding surprisingly distant. "Don't...don't go to the lower floors."
"Christ, Ambs, you look as though you've seen a ghost." Olivia observed. I felt my eye twitch.
"Worse than that."
"What did you see in there?" Spejder asked gently, setting his hand on my shoulder.
"This place was a hospital and served as a bomb shelter during the war, but it got overcrowded...they killed all of the patients to make room, but th

It didn't take us too long to reach the graves and bury Dalia. The four of us were once again completely silent as we moved on, coming up on two long, rusting metal poles sticking out of the ground. Hanging off of one of the poles as if it would fall off at any second was a sheet of faded blue metal full of holes, which had extremely large letters printed on it.
ALTA
10 KILOMETER
On top of the other pole was a smaller sheet of rectangular metal, this one a faded green color.

Spejder stopped as soon as we got on to the road, turning around to face us with a huge grin on his face.
"We made it. We're almost in Alta."
Olivia let o

Oh, it's impossible! I can't stop clinging to the hope that they might still be alive! I tried so hard, I even scribbled down a small obituary for each of them on separate sheets of paper to keep tucked in my pillowcase, but I just can't stop hoping! I don't want them to be dead, I want them to be alive!
I made it through one day of pretending that they had died, but after I put Mikkel, Amalia, and Alexandra to bed I ended up running to one of the officials and begging them to radio some of the shelters in Finland to check and see if any of them were there. Accepting the fact that they might be gone forever was just

There was no way I was going to be able to function properly on Sunday. Katja woke up and did some knitting while laying in bed, Lys sat and read, and I spent the day sleeping.
Now, it was Monday, and I was gearing up for the weekly ration handout. Mrs. Abels had let me keep the gas mask after Saturday's fiasco with Katja, and I was having a tricky time getting used to wearing it. It was a dark green color and covered my face completely, with several straps that went around the back of my head to hold it in place. It was big and heavy, but in surprisingly good condition for its age and much more effective than my usual mask. I tried to g

I had so many questions. The language was old and confusing, the terminology strange. I couldn't understand the actions of the people Tove had been talking about; why were they attacking Russians for something that their leaders did? It didn't make any sense why someone would do that.
Reading this journal was almost like reading a fictional book, like Alice in Wonderland, only it actually happened, and I was actually related to the person who wrote this. I honestly didn't know what to think or feel.
Running my hands over the cover again, I looked up to Katja's sleeping face. The flickering candlelight cast shadows over her face, her ha

Usually, when I see giant fucking things in the sky, I'm hallucinating and need to go sleep it off.
Today, that was not the case. A giant fucking thing in the sky was seen, and it was pretty damn real.
I was trying to figure out whether or not my 2-year-old son Mikkel and I should go to Malmö for the day, when the show he was watching got interrupted by an emergency news broadcast. Apparently, those Russians finally cracked and sent off a nuke. Instead of sending it over the Pacific, though, they went and turned northern Estonia into a crater. The shock waves from the blast reached Helsinki and did a lot of d

The doctor aboard the CCCP-91 and childhood friend of Ilmestyskirja and Zjevení. Though normally a nervous individual, she has her odd quirks that seem to come out of nowhere. It started with the winter Steam sale and a 1TB external hard drive.
It continued with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind resting happily in the new hard drive.
It will end sometime soon with a DOS emulator and The Elder Scrolls I: Arena and The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall.
Basically I have all five Elder Scrolls games now and I'm screaming.
